What should an HVAC shop actually track?
Four layers: EPA Section 608 certification (Type I/II/III or Universal), state and local licenses (contractor, journeyman/master, and business licenses), per-job permits and inspections, and manufacturer certifications tied to warranties. The 608 cert itself doesn’t expire, but almost everything stacked on top of it does, and that’s what quietly lapses.
Does EPA 608 certification expire?
No. EPA Section 608 technician certification is issued for life. What lapses is your documentation of it and the state and local licenses layered on top. Leave the expiry blank in the tracker to simply keep a 608 on file; add expiry dates for the licenses and certs that renew.
How is this different from just using a spreadsheet?
